Clinical Behavior Analysis addresses the connection between thoughts ("private behaviors") and the overt behaviors which emerge as a result. Problems are identified, goals are established, and the therapist and client work together to uncover the origin of underlying core beliefs and thought patterns, and replace them with healthier more productive ones.
Change can happen quickly with a behavioral approach, as the therapist and client work together to analyze the client's thought patterns ("private behaviors") and how they affect overt behaviors and quality of life, with a focus on relationships with self and significant others.
In today's world, relationships are more complex than ever. Dr. McGuinness brings attachment theory to her practice of clinical behavior therapy to improve the relationships of couples, families, co-workers, as well as individuals with a history of relationship difficulties; and most importantly, the relationship we have with ourselves.
HeartMath is a biofeedback system for improving heart rate variability, which in turn decreases anxiety. The heart rate variability pattern reveals the individualʼs ability to recover after physiological arousal (a stressor), reflecting a smooth or coherent transition between the sympathetic (fight or flight) system and the parasympathetic (rest and digest system). Heart rate variability (HRV) is an adaptive quality and is pertinent to physical, behavioral, emotional, and mental wellbeing. Oneʼs HRV measurement value might be thought of as indicative of physical, behavioral, emotional, and mental adaptability. In short, proper control of breath during stressful encounters is like a superpower that you can use whenever you need it.
The most current research in the field of nutrition and health psychology informs us that nutrition is an important variable in recovery from cognitive and emotional challenges. The brain and gut are integral elements of the central nervous system, connected and sharing the job of maintaining physical and mental health. Together we can explore the possibility that diet plays into your behavioral repertoire, and work together to identify problem foods and replacements. I also offer support for weight loss, and to those facing dietary changes related to a medical diagnoses. Dr. McGuinness' focus is all natural whole foods that support physical, emotional and spiritual health. Please also visit Dr. McGuinness' foodie website and BLOG at Two2Kitchens.com.
